Not sure what to say?

In loving memory of my beloved husband Steve. Always in my heart.

A loving brother, a wonderful friend, a perfect gentleman, kind always, loyal to family and friends, bright and interested in everything, funny and able to find humor in so many situations, gracious to everyone, just the best in every way. I will always miss you.

A great guy always upbeat about his friends and family and who seldom said a bad word about anyone. Last time we went fishing on the Wallowa River he saved me from serious injury by grabbing my arm as I was about to fall off a steep riverbank. To the degree I know any thing about fly-fishing, I learned it from Steve. The photo shows Steve and Mike Shanahan on one of our fishing trips in Wallowa County. Both are gone now and deeply missed. My condolences to Madeleine and Lee.

A good friend from high school.

With the passing of Steve Carter many of us realize just how much we will miss our dear friend. Kind and caring with good cheer for all he was a thoughtful, intellectually curious man, a friend to share a meal or drink with, climb into the outback to explore, throw a line in a clear mountain stream or shift gears and discuss politics or the arts. They don’t make enough of his kind.

Rest in peace dear friend.

Our condolences to Steve’s family and friends.

Steve (along with Lee and Becky) was our first real neighbor in Portland, across the street from us on NE Alameda, 35 years ago. Our families shared some very nice times together. Steve was a steadfast friend and a genuine treasure for the community in his great work for The Oregonian and as a board member at the Dougy Center.

Most especially, our love goes out to Madeleine, Steve’s wife for 25 years and Deborah’s good...

One of the nicest men I have ever known. We worked together on many volunteer projects and Steve was always supportive, informed and prepared. He leaves a huge void in the AARP family as well as with his friends. My condolences, thoughts and prayers to Madeleine and his son. So sorry for your loss as well as ours.

Steve with his smile and kindnesses is missed. He was always interested in others. Steve leaves his friends and family with wonderful memories.

A good friend and colleague and a truly fine person. I miss him greatly. Gone way too soon.
