Steven Fausch Obituary

Steven Fausch

Ankeny

Steven Robert Fausch, 66, passed onto Heaven on November 10, 2016, after battling cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St. Ankeny, IA 50021). Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St. Ankeny, IA 50021).

Steven was born on October 27, 1950 in Des Moines to Robert and Eyleen (Bond) Fausch. He grew up on a farm in the Alleman area and in Lemon Grove, California before moving to Ankeny in 1963, and was a 1968 graduate of Ankeny High School. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1972 in Industrial Administration and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1977 he married his wife Molly, also an ISU grad, and they had two sons, Matt and Andy. He worked at Iowa Power and for over 30 years at Hawkeye Security Insurance Company in Des Moines.

Steve loved sports and was an avid fan of the Cyclones and the Dodgers, attending many games over the years with family and friends. He played on many teams and especially enjoyed his years of fast pitch softball. He also loved coaching his sons and their friends on their teams, several qualifying for national AAU tournaments.

In retirement Steve did volunteer work at the Animal Rescue League and Catholic Charities and made many good friends at St. Mary Family Center. He also enjoyed golf, biking, reading and watching his Dodgers and old westerns on TV. He and his wife Molly enjoyed traveling, especially trips to the American west.

Steve thanks his family and friends for their love, support and prayers during his illness. He is survived by his dear wife, Molly; sons, Matt and Andy, father, Bob (Marilyn) Fausch; sisters, Cinda Hathaway, Cathy (Craig) Meimann, Kelli (Rick) Maly, sister-in-law, Rosemary Frazier; brothers-in-law, Dennis Momyer and Bill (Kathy) Momyer; several aunts and uncles and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eyleen, who died of cancer in 1987.

Online condolences and memories may be shared on Steve's page at www.ankenyfuneralhome.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Family Center, American Cancer Society or Children International.

Molly, will be praying for your family and Steve. I enjoyed you both at St. Mary's and always remember Steve's humble approach to work. He always took the worse jobs and finished them before we had a chance to even get started. He was a great man of service. God bless

Molly, I am so sorry for your loss. The last time I saw Steve was when my wife and I ran into the two of you down at Methodist. That was the first I had heard of Steve's illness, but I was comforted by the fact that he appeared to be battling it with a positive attitude and a fighting spirit. I always enjoyed playing basketball with him back in the day. You have my deepest sympathy.

Molly, Please know our hearts & prayers go out to you and your family. We have all lost a great friend. My memories of Steve go back to the 8th grade. We always had fun whether we were playing ping pong, shooting baskets, golfing, playing softball or watching Dodger games or Iowa State sporting events. My fondest memories are of playing softball together for 10 plus years. I honestly believe my life is much richer from having had Steve as a friend. I will miss him dearly.
