Steven Allen Girard
August 1, 1981 – August 16, 2025
Steven Allen Girard, “Baby Boy” to his mom and “Steven” to those who loved him best, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Barre, Vermont, at the age of 44 years and 15 days.
Born on August 1, 1981, in Providence, Rhode Island, Steven was an easy-going, down-to-earth soul who lived life by his own code. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, show up whenever you needed him, and treat his friends like family—because to Steven, they were. His big heart and willingness to always put others first will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Steven loved to have fun, often shocking and scaring people with his wild sense of humor. He had a knack for turning an ordinary moment into a story worth retelling. He could spend longer in the bathroom than anyone alive, styling his hair and making sure he looked GQ-ready before he stepped out the door. He lived for music, skydiving, tattoos, card games (and card tricks), fishing, and tearing up the road with his incredible driving skills.
Over the years, Steven called many places home—Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Vermont—but no matter where he lived, he carried his heart and his humor with him. He worked hard and gave his best, from his years as Water Park Maintenance Supervisor at Jay Peak and Pump House, to turning wrenches at North Troy Auto, to serving as a rookie firefighter for the North Troy Fire Department, and coaching his sons’ Little League team.
Steven leaves behind his two sons, Giavonte Loren Dunn Girard, who was the center of his world, and Demario Justice James Girard, his first son, who was adopted by his maternal grandmother and became Dakota Sargeant. Both sons were deeply loved by Steven, and his pride in them was unmatched. He is also survived by his beloved mother, Lisa Ann Girard, who never stopped calling him “Baby Boy”; his many cousins including Janice Gallego, Mikey Gallego, Rose Toner, Junior DeRosa Gallego, Tony DeSanto, Tony Jr. DeSanto, Tara DeSanto, and Derek DeSanto; his uncles Tony DeSanto and Dunn Beckett; and his aunts Debbie Blier and Marie DeSanto.
Steven was predeceased by Clifton James Taylor, who was like a father to him, and whose passing in 2024 left a deep mark on his heart.
Steven shared countless memories both with family and friends he treated as family, from mischievous adventures and family gatherings to the quiet moments when Steven showed up, had your back, and proved time and again the kind of loyal, protective soul he was.
Steven will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, and heart, but also for his style, his music, and his way of making sure every moment counted. His family and friends will hold close the memories of his laughter, his love, and even the hours he spent in front of the mirror.
A service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. at Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Homes, 37 Lake Road, Newport, VT. On-line condolences are welcome at curtis-britch.com.
Though gone too soon, Steven’s memory will live on in the lives he touched, the jokes he told, and the love he gave so freely. And if heaven has a bathroom mirror, we know he’s already in front of it—looking sharp, hair perfect, and GQ-ready. The roads up there will never be the same with him behind the wheel, and if you suddenly hear a laugh, a scare, or a joke that makes you shake your head, don’t worry—it’s just Steven, still finding ways to be with us.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all the love and support they have received. While flowers are a beautiful gesture, they kindly ask that you consider a donation in Steve's memory instead. Contributions will go directly to the GoFundMe campaign created to support Lisa, offering a meaningful way to honor his life and provide comfort to his loved ones. You can donate here:

To my cousin who was truly a brother—you always had my back, taught me, protected me, and filled life with mischievous adventures. I’ve tried to honor you in every way I could, but nothing could capture the loyal, courageous, and empathetic soul you were. I’ll miss your visits, your laugh, and your warm hugs forever.
