Steve Glass, 36, of Brooklyn died December 22, 2009 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 28, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Brian Chitwood, Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Milner, Russ Davis, Erik Glass, Matt Ahrens, Gabe Neighbors, Vince Wallerich,Mike Parrott, and Dan Brown. Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday afternoon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Steve Glass Memorial Fund.
Steve was born on January 6, 1973, in Grinnell, the son of Jerry B. Glass and Sharon Parrott- Killinger. He was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of BGM High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
On May 5, 2007, he was united in marriage to Jamie Ahrens, at Herrick Chapel in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Brooklyn and he was employed as an officer at the Oakdale Correctional Facility.
Steve was very family oriented. He was a Good Samaritan and his care for others spoke volumes through his actions and doing things right, he never cut corners. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed cars, particularly his mustang, playing cards and video games, and watching movies. He held a passion for cooking and he loved to laugh.
Survivors include his wife, Jamie of Brooklyn; two children, Austin and Taegan Glass of Brooklyn; his father, Jerry of Brooklyn; his mother, Sharon of Ankeny; one brother, Erik Glass of Winterset; his father-in-law, Mike Ahrens of Grinnell; his grandparents, Ken and Verleen Eggman; and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Grace Glass; and his mother-in-law, Shirley Ahrens.
