I was hired as a deputy district attorney by San Mateo County on July 3, 1967. Steve Grier was assigned as my mentor, since it was his caseload I would be taking over. Steve was to be reassigned to the Central branch of the D.A.'s Office. Steve gave me the drill, introduced me to the support staff, and also to the judges. He particularly warned me about Judge Frank Comaich who Steve said loved to feed on deputy d.a.'s, particularly young, green ones. Well, there wasn't anyone greener...
