Not sure what to say?

Dear Anne, Rebecca and Andrew,
We are probably like many people Steve touched during his life dispensing small good things without even noticing. We were at the White Bear Montessori many years ago. He led my three kids through your old place in White Bear, then much later when he toured my nephew who loves bikes on a tour of your new place. In between, he found us a a twin tagalong for our twins to (supposedly) pedal behind me.

He did these things so naturally and with kindness,...

It was 1980 and Steve had just opened the Bike Line in Bloomington, my mother owned a bookstore a few doors down. BMX was big, Steve's shop was our hangout and he taught all of us how to repair bikes and to lace & balance wheels – we got five dollars for each wheel we built. Over two years we spent all our free time there, throwing pottery on a wheel in the back and lighting fires in a pot belly stove to keep the place warm in the fall and sharing the Passion of Bike.

Steve always had...

Dear Hed Family,
On behalf of the Office of Campus Ministries at Bethel University, I offer our heartfelt condolences at the loss of your husband, father, son, brother and friend, Steven. We cannot imagine the sorrow, yet we praise God that the Holy Spirit walks with us in our distress. If there is anything that we can to to be a blessing to you as you walk out these days ahead, please do let us know. With sincere love and hope in Christ Jesus-Pastor Laurel Bunker, Dean of Campus...

I can remember the first time I met Steve at the old HED. facility in White Bear Lake (the “home-actory”). His great enthusiasm for knowledge (both acquiring and sharing), along with his desire (and ability) to apply it practically to the problem or project of the moment were immediately noticeable. Conversations regarding a broad range of engineering subjects were always enlightening and, more importantly, fun. He will be missed by so many…

My condolences to the Hed family and...

i was one of the first amateur athletes to buy on of Steve's new disk wheels in the 1980's when he was the one who picked up the phone when you called HED. He was alway such a nice person to deal with. He also sold me one of his experimental new aero bars in the early 2000's. I have been loyal to HED during my entire triathlon career. I know he is smiling looking down from Heaven on us all. May God continue to bless his family. Tom O'Brien

Dear Anne,

I was very sad when I learned that all our hopes were disappointed. I wish I would have had a chance to get to know your wonderful husband.
Hoping you find comfort in memories of your time together,

Steve, you were an amazing man whose ideas had great influence in our industry but your humble and genuine style armed with that ever present smile is what truly influenced people. Regardless of your constant innovations and new ideas you always showed your amazing heart in quiet and gentle ways, you will be sorely missed. We have not yet ridden together but one day we will...on fatbikes! You told me I would not be able to stop smiling once I rode one.

Annie, Andrew and Rebecca, my...

Thanks Steve for the friendship over the years. We will miss you! I'll implement into RAGBRAI what we talked about at Interbike a few months ago. I'm sure you'll be smiling down on us from heaven that day with that big smile on your face.

Our thoughts are with Anne and your children.

Biggest, most influential guy in the industry I ever had the opportunity to spend time with...and you'd never know it. Steve will be missed in more ways and by more people than I think we realize. Thanks for all your contributions Steve Hed and may your genius and insight live on in all the people you touched!
