Adobe Creek Funeral Home - Petaluma Obituary

Steven Highland died on June 24, 2022, in Petaluma, CA. after a brief and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old.

He was born in Maryland on October 23, 1965. As a child, Steve lived in small towns across Europe as part of a military family before they eventually settled in Augusta, Georgia when Steve was a young teen. He moved to Petaluma as a young adult and married his wife Maureen (Finn) in 1993. Steve was most proud of the family they created - Meredith (AJ) Hennessy, Nolan Highland, Sam Highland.  And in recent years, he treasured every minute with their three grandchildren, Oliver, Emilia, and Caroline.

Steve is also survived by his mother, Nelda Elliott, step-mother Pat Highland, siblings Brenda Reece, Michael Highland and Stacy Bargeron, as well as step siblings including Chris Elliott, with whom he shared a special bond.  He was predeceased by his father William Highland, step-father Robert Elliott, and brother Ron Highland.  Also special to Steve was the family of his best friend in Georgia, Jack Holt (deceased), especially parents Pam and Jack.

Steve spent many days coaching his children’s sports teams and enjoying time with dear friends made throughout his life.  Steve was a die-hard University of Georgia and Atlanta Braves fan, a passion he shared with his children and grandchildren.  Family gatherings and memorable vacations will always be held close to our hearts.

His career included years as a house raiser and land surveyor, but Steve ultimately found his most rewarding role as corporate Safety Director at Broadway Mechanical Contractors where he valued and respected the hard work and dedication and of his co-workers.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma, on Thursday, June 30th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Steven Highland Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Petaluma Educational Foundation, 200 Douglas Street, Petaluma, CA 94952.
