I was saddened to learn of Steve's death. I enjoyed seeing him in plays. I remember him as a kind and interesting person.

Steven J. McCormick passed away Jan. 11, 2016. He was born in 1950."The little man who did it is dead!"That's all Steve wanted as his epitaph. It is what his mother would say to him when he denied doing something that she knew he did do.But obits are for the living too, and Steven affected so...

As a friend/ co-worker of Chuck Kelley, I got to know Steve a bit by attending numerous perfomances of the Forest Park Theater. Steve, indeed, was a little man with a huge presence. He was forceful in delivery ,voice, and character portrayal. They both knew how to act and draw in the audiences; a great treat in the neighborhood church! American Buffalo was my favorite....the intensity they brought to the stage...punctuated by "the little man's" booming F bombs.

We did a play called American Buffalo by David Mamet. Two acts, a set replica of a pawn shop with a desk, a display case, and a whole bunch of stuff here and there. Three characters: Donnie, the owner, and Bobby, Donnie's young and a bit slow protégé, and Teach, a crook/thief who was so tense he threatened to go off any second. It was a show piece part and I wanted it and I actually took it and said it's mine. The nerve! But after a couple rehearsals the director, Bob Lehan, pulled me aside...

After Zoo Story we did a play called Huey by Eugene O'Neil. No real plot to it, but it gave expression to the struggles of the Great Depression. Similar to Zoo Story, it was a one-act, simple set, two characters. This time I had most of the lines while Steve was a bored desk clerk in a third rate hotel. For this play I wore a brown pinstriped, double breast suit. During a rehearsal, Steve brought out a brown box, set it on the desk, and said, "Here, try this on." The box itself was beautiful...

Steve and I were doing a play at the lovely little brown church that sits on a triangle of green grass between two streets. We got it through Joyce, a lovely, generous lady who had the best connection, as her husband was the minister. The inside of the church was ideal. There was a raised stage with a curtain and a large apron in front. We played on the apron with the curtain closed. Perfect! as the commercial goes. So we rehearsed this one-act, two character play by Albee called Zoo Story....

Nancy, I am so sorry. You are in my prayers, my dear friend. Remember we love you. I can't believe, 'Stevie' is gone. His memories will keep us going and sometimes, laughing. See you soon.

For a good chunk of the 80s Steve and I had part time jobs delivering furniture for a store in Agawam. The delivery truck was a Ford 350. I was already familiar with F350s, knowing if the road was simply wet, the rear end could easily slip out from under you. But that wasn't the problem this particular rainy night, although it was on my mind. We were moving south on 91 and it was raining heavy and Steve was driving. The big box was probably empty, heading home for the night. And for some...
