Not sure what to say?

Sorry to learn about Steve's passing. We were good colleagues in the Department of Rural Sociology at Texas A&M University. His work ethic was enviable and unmatched by staff and faculty. Steve was the go-to demographer for state population trends and left a legacy of well trained students.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Murdock´s death. I worked for him in the Rural Sociology Department as a graduate student. He was also my dissertation chair and a mentor. Dr. Murdock helped me in numerous ways academically and professionally. My deepest and sincerest condolences to Dr. Mary Zey and family.

If Steven Murdock said it, it was either true or would become true. What a loss for our State of Texas!

I worked for Dr. Murdock at the Texas State Data Center (at Texas A&M) in the mid-late 90´s. I remember working on the Texas Challenge Report, doing some research on some land where a very famous news anchor was from, and pulling all data from books! Computers were dinosaurs and so a lot was done by hand. We had a library of reference materials in bound books in cabinets and on shelves. Then 25 years later, I discover that he is at Rice with my twin girls . The world is now minus one...

Steve was a brilliant scholar and a constructively critical, much appreciated colleague and friend. His death is a loss to the academe, his family and his many friends.

Dr. Murdock was my mentor and the chair of my dissertation committee at Texas A&M University, College Station. He was a wonderful person and a great teacher. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Dr. Zey and the rest of the family. May the Lord lead you home, Dr. Murdock. Kofi Effah & Family.

Dr. Murdock will be surely missed. He was an incredible mentor for so many students. My condolences to Dr. Zey and his family.

From our Fargo days with Steve through his career advancements in Texas, we remained great friends of Steve and Mary, and hold fast the memories of our get togethers. Steve and Eldon enjoyed each other and we both will sincerely miss him. Janet and Eldon Schriner ,

I had the pleasure of working for Steve when he had an office in the Texas Capitol complex. I had great respect for him and his work. It was an honor and a pleasure to work for him.
