Steven James Nygard, 54, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 10, 2005 at his home in Meadowlands. He was born in Duluth Aug. 14, 1950 to Ernest and Helen Nygard. Steve graduated from Proctor High School in 1968. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972 aboard the USS Joseph Strauss. Steve worked as a grocer for many years at various grocery stores around Duluth. He also co-owned Styles Catering and Barbeque until 2001. Steve's greatest love was his family, spending time with his granddaughters and enjoying the time out in his 'Meadow.' He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest C. Nygard. Steve will be sadly missed by those he leaves behind, his wife of 25 years, Debbie J. Nygard of Meadowlands; daughters, Kimberly A. Nygard of Duluth, Stacy (Darren) White of Italy, Lorri M. Nygard of Duluth, Stephanie J. Nygard of Duluth; granddaughters, Brittany Nicole, Ashleigh Rebecca, Kayley Marie, Alexis Faith, Kendyl Marie; mother, Helen Nygard; sister, Nancy (Rich) Vanneste of Hayward, Wis.; brothers, Tom (Cynthia) Nygard of Appleton, Wis., John (Annette) Nygard of Duluth; and special pal, 'Lady.' MEMORIAL SERVICE:2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Avenue in Duluth. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-624-5200.

I JUST HEARD ABOUT STEVES PASSING TODAY, THROUGH AN OLD EMPLOYEE THAT I ONCE WORKED WITH AT AVENUE MARKET ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO. HE RELAYED THE SAD NEWS.STEVE WAS A FAIR MAN AS WELL AS A GOOD BOSS.I REALLY ENJOYED WORKING WITH HIM AND HIS WIFE.MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS ENTIRE FAMILY.HE'LL BE SADLY MISSED .

Daddy, I don't know what to say except that it seems to be getting harder everyday instead of easier.. I love you so much... I am so thankful that I got to see you and to stay with you while I was home, but it was the hardest thing to leave you there when we left. It has been a month and it is not getting any easier. I will do my best to take care of your daughter along with Brittany, Ashleigh and Kendyl. Just to let you know we spent the remainder of our time at your house in the meadow untill we had to return to Italy. This time was the hardest to leave. All of your little (pigtails) were playing on the trampoline. Ashleigh drove the 4-wheeler a little to close to your toilet on the driveway because she wanted to touch your flower pot. Brittany...
