I still think of Steven when I reminisce of our elementary, junior high and sophomore years together in classes, sports, and Boy Scouts. I want his children to know that he was a great student, a hard working sportsman, and a terrific friend.

I was shocked to discover Steven's obituary this evening. We met in Portland, Oregon, in 1983 while he was attending Lewis & Clark Law School. Always a kind, fun-loving spirit, he loved talking about growing up in Pennsylvania, his family and his National Geographic photography assignments. Years later, I was fortunate to run across a signed copy of his last photo book entitled, 'Seasons Along the Tiadaghton: An Environmental History of the Pine Creek Gorge" (Hardcover, c. 1993).

I have great childhood memories of Steve -- his exuberant skiing style, his love for fishing, his sense of humor. He will be missed.
