Not sure what to say?

I'd like to add that Steve once told me this: the thing that led to him entering the careers advisor area was the example of our NSBHS school careers advisor, who was also the Economics teacher, Mr. T. Harborne. That illustrates the possible long-term favorable influence of a good teacher. And I don't doubt that Steve had such an influence in turn

Steve was a giant of the Careers scene. His contribution to the evolution and development of this vital component of higher education was rightly acknowledged by his award of AM. I first encountered Steve professionally in 1979, and in different contexts worked with him for more than two decades. He was a man of many talents; and aside from his profound knowledge and skill 'at work', was great fun to know personally. He had a wicked sense of humour! I especially treasure the memory of...

I spent about 20-25 years working with Steve either at the Sydney Uni CAS or on the Destination Survey. He could be challenging but rewarding, and I think in the end we learned to be patient with each other and appreciated what each had to offer. My grammar improved markedly too! One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that he loved the Goon Show, as did I - excellent taste in humour. I'm sure Dale Harvey would send his best. Thanks for it all, Steve. Cheers ...

Steve was a good bloke, who helped us a lot with our NSBHS high-school reunions for many years. I echo everything others have written.

A sad day for many of us who knew Steve. I will always be indebted to Steve for giving me a start in Careers at the University of Sydney. He was inspirational in his knowledge of the Career Industry. He was incredibly generous in guiding the industry to heights across many decades. Thank you Steve. My condolences to the family.

Mr. Steve Rawling was a man who had a good sense of humour who supported me with my research and endeavors which I will never forget. I was happy to have him in my documentary which he initially helped me with. His endeavors will not be forgotten. A special mention to Judie and Emma who always made me feel at home as Steve did. Truly, Pierre Marcoux

It was a real privilege knowing Steve when he worked with us in the Careers unit at the University of Western Sydney. He was someone I consulted regularly and whose advice was invaluable. Steve had a fabulous memory and was a fount of historical knowledge on Australian University Careers services. If there was an argument, or if clarification was needed, Steve´s word was always regarded as final. Steve was a pedant and regularly lamented the steady decline of English grammar. We certainly...

Steve was a good friend during my days as an exchange student at Sydney university in the years 1962-64. We did many things together along with the interesting characters who were his friends. Our friendship continued through the many subsequent years, and he visited my husband and me in our home in Everett, Washington at least twice, where we hiked and canoed, showing him some of the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. I am sad knowing he is now gone, and send sincere condolences to his family.

Steve was such an interesting and knowledgeable man who cared deeply about his local community and wider area, especially its history, heritage and environment. I always enjoyed chatting with him about a wide range of things, and never left a conversation without having learned something new. I feel privileged to have known him, and deeply appreciate his efforts and support generously given to me in my civic role. I know he will be greatly missed. Sincerest condolences to Judy, Emma and family.
