To the West Family,
I have never met any of yout but as I drove through town today and passed by the church I saw the horse drawn carriage that would carry your son to the cemetary. I had tears in my eyes as I approached the common I saw so many people waiting to honor him and the fire dept waiting with the ladders for him to pass through. My heart breaks for you but I know you are proud. He died a hero.

Steven was an amazing neighbor, an amazing friend, and always made me smile. He was one of the most talented people I have ever met in my life. I was so proud of him when he told me he was going into the Marines. Steven knew what he wanted to do.
