Steven Whiteman

Steven D. Whiteman, 57, of Angier, N.C., formerly of Rixford, died Friday (July 1, 2016) at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 10, 1958, he was the eighth son of Donald and Shirley Stroup Whiteman Sr. On May 10, 1992, he married Betty Williams, who survives.
Steven was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. He had worked in the oil fields in Pennsylvania before moving to North Carolina in 1986.
There, he worked as a mechanic in several places before taking a job at Senter Tractor, where he worked for 25 years until he retired due to ill health.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Shirley Whiteman of Rixford; two stepsons, Joe and Chris (Lynn) Soles, both in North Carolina; three grandchildren; eight brothers, David (Juliet) Whiteman of San Pedro, Calif., Richard (Rosemary) Whiteman of Portville, N.Y., Robert (Denise) Whiteman of Eldred, Daniel (Connie) Whiteman of Mesa, Ariz., Jeffrey (Linda) Whiteman of Bradford, Terry Whiteman of Rixford, Marvin (Linda Monroe) Whiteman of Allegany, N.Y., and John (Sarah) Whiteman of Ridgway; four sisters, Linda Shick, Karen (Robert) Craft and Tina Whiteman, all of Bradford, and Marcie (Kirk) Schellhammer of Smethport; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2001; a sister, Nancy Whiteman in 2006; a brother, James Whiteman in 2013; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Shick in 2015.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., East Main Street, with the Rev. Rick Price, pastor of the Bradford Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in North Carolina.
