It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Steven Jay Zubko, after a two-year battle with cancer who departed this life on October 10th, 2025, at the age of 70. Steve was known for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.


Born on February 20th, 1955, in Toledo Ohio, and grew up in South Bend, Indiana. Steve was born to the late, Gene and Laura Zubko. He grew up in South Bend, Indiana. Growing up he got his passion for fishing from his father Gene, he also enjoyed golfing, played first base in little league baseball, hiking while wearing his grandpa’s WWII gear, working on cars and building model cars and planes. In 1975 he moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked at Jostens Concrete for 42 years. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping and going to sprint car races.


Steve has 3 children from previous marriage, and he had 6 more stepchildren with his fiancé Cathy. His greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones.


A celebration of Steven Jay Zubko’s life will be held on October 15th, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home, beginning at 10am. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Steve are welcome to attend and share in remembering a remarkable life. A private Burial will be held later.


Steve survived by his children and stepchildren Dorthy Lehman of South Bend, Indiana, Jon Zubko of Tea, South Dakota, Lorena Zubko of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Angela Suing of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, Joseph Havermann, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Julia Havermann of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Dan Havermann of Yankton, South Dakota, Cindy Novak of Mission Hill, South Dakota, David Havermann of Texas. He is also survived by His brother Gerry and sister Sue and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Laura Zubko, Fiancée, Catherine Wistrom; and grand-daughter Hannah Havermann.


Though Steve is no longer with us, his spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and love will never be forgotten.
