Not sure what to say?

Oh, I'm so sorry. I just found this. I have a grateful memory of his energy, love for his work, and general thoughtfulness. I was part of a summer dig of a kiva/Chaco outlier. As I was leaving I realized I'd forgotten to pack something really innocuous but he ran back to find it for me. I visited him a few years later when he was writing up what became his exceptional book. I remember that he joked about having to be stuck inside to write up all the research. A number of years later I walked...

I am so sorry to hear about Stew's passing. My dad grew up with Stew in Troy, New York and was best friends with him and Stew's brother, Bill. Stew was also my Godfather and my middle name is Stewart, named after him. I didn't really get to know him that well as we lived in New York State and then in Atlanta, Georgia when I was growing up. We did travel out West one year and went to New Mexico and saw him then. Dad and Stew were in contact quite frequently until he passed away last...

Stew was one of the first people I met when I moved to New Mexico. He was a good friend who was always willing to share his knowledge of New Mexico's history along with a liberal dose of his droll wit.

Visiting the Saratoga (NY) Battlefield in 1993.

During my visits to Santa Fe, he graciously shared his deep knowledge of the region's history with a personal tour of museums, pueblos, and other sites. A good sense of humor runs in the family, though Stew's was occasionally as dry as an arroyo. He loved New Mexico, the culture, and the people.

I am sorry for your loss. Stew was a great guy and he always had a funny story to tell.

I always enjoyed working with Stew, even if we sometimes disagreed. From This Earth was a fun book work with him on. He was supportive and a good guy.
