Sunny, Vivacious, Irreverent
Suria Clarke's first name means "the shining one" or "the sun" in Sanskrit, and it was as if her whole life was about living the promise of her name. She was tall and vivacious, and somehow "she never went unnoticed," said her friend Selinde Dulckeit.

She was also "quite irreverent, whether she was talking to the C.E.O. of a company or the mailman," Ms. Dulckeit said. The two women knew each other in Brussels, where they lived before they both moved to New York. When Ms. Clarke died, she had just started a job as a vice president for media relations at eSpeed, a division of Cantor Fitzgerald at the World Trade Center.

Ms. Clarke, 30, had an appetite for life, for food, for wine. On a trip to Italy with Ms. Dulckeit, the two friends fell in love with the local Tuscan wine. Ms. Clarke just had to have some to take home to Brooklyn Heights. So they bought two huge bottles of wine, almost 90 liters.

But when they got home they had to find a way to decant it. They needed 90 empty bottles. So they started drinking. "We had to drink a lot of wine," remembered Ms. Dulckeit.

Not sure what to say?

She is there. I was lost on the subway to the memorial fountains and a pretty young lady suddenly was sitting next to me. "We get off here". It was Fulton street and I thanked her she replied "I live here". Three times that afternoon Suria appeared and gave me directions already knowing what my destination was: The Brooklyn bridge, St Paul's and the subway. Always in my prayers Suria.

Remembering Suria on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

Much love to the family. We will never forget.

Why now in 2019? Because you came into my mind today as I was looking at some photos of a weekend in the Ardennes.
You may tragically no longer be here but your friends and family will still have you in their thoughts.

So long Suria - it was great to know you for three great years at university, and how we all wish it was much, much more than that. You are still much loved and much missed.

Suria was such an amazing person. I was one of her colleagues at Edelman, and she will always be remembered for her spirit, intelligence and humour.

Suria,

You were one of the most special people I've ever met. We only worked together for a year-and-a-half, but your endless smile shines over that whole period. You gave me countless happy memories, and I'm very thankful for that.

I saw your lovely mum on the television today. I know you'd be as proud of her as she is of you.

All my love,

Jonathan

just watched the memorial service your amazing mother organised in the beautiful garden of rememberence RIP

I first met Suria in June 2001 working on a press release.

Amazingly beautiful and unbelievably smart.

You will be missed forever.
