Sam meant a lot to me in spite of the short tenure of our friendship. He was an unusually deep and talented man with whom I had hoped for a long and caring friendship. We all lost something.
English poet John Donne wrote "no man is an island unto himself, each is a part of the main and if a single man be lost the continent is the lesser." To say the least the continent is lesser for the loss of this man.
