Curran-Jones Funeral Home - Agawam Obituary

Susan Ann (Durant) Adamczyk, 74, of Agawam, MA passed away surrounded by her adoring family on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.  Our beloved wife, mother, aunt, and Grandma was the heart of our family.

Susan was born on April 13, 1949, to the late Hannah (Prendiville) and Joseph Durant in Springfield, MA. She was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1967 graduate of Agawam High School.

Susan attended the Hartford School of Nursing and spent her life devoted to caring for others as a pediatric nurse at Baystate Medical Center and as an in-home caregiver to children with life altering disabilities. Her compassion for her patients was only outdone by her deep and selfless love for her family.

A dedicated communicant of Sacred Heart Church, her unwavering faith and lifelong motto of “everything happens for a reason” helped her navigate the ups and downs of life. A woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures, she delighted in trips to the beach, floating in the pool, fall turkey shoots, decorating for every holiday, Sunday dinners, and most importantly spending time with her friends, family, and five grandchildren who all adored their Grandma.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Edward J. Adamczyk, her two children, Brett Adamczyk (Caitlin) of Westwood, MA, Courtney Lombardi (Eric) of West Springfield, MA, her five grandchildren, Owen, Emma, Griffin, Liam, and Declan, her brother Richard Durant (Priscilla) of Wakefield, RI, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends. Susan was pre-deceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Albano, with Jean being a mother figure to her throughout her life and instilled the importance of family.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Lindsey West and the nursing teams at Baystate Medical Center for their tremendous care as well as the staff at The Sosin Center for Rehab. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan’s name to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org

Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 4-7pm at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10am from the Agawam Curran Jones Funeral Home followed by a Mass at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA. Ed, Courtney & Brett I am so sorry for your loss. - john & suzette sullivan.

Dear Ed and family, So sorry to hear of Sue´s passing. May memories bring peace and comfort during this difficult time. With Sympathy, Grace & Peter Tilden

Ed, Courtney, Brett, Richard, I am sorry for your loss. Susan was one of the anchors of the Durant family and she will be missed.

As a classmate of Sue's in the Agawam school system, I am very saddened to hear of her passing. Fellow students, in addition to myself, looked up to her as a role model. She was very poised, confident, and mature. Besides being a cheerleader, Sue was very involved in school activities, clubs, and organizing student events. Above all, Sue was kind and sincere. My memories of her will never fade. Terry Fassnacht

Dear Ed & Family, Ed, I'm so very sorry to hear this news about Sue. Although I didn't know her that well during our time at Liberty, every time we talked she was always amused about the "Liberty Life". It's been a long time since we spoke, but please know you are in my thoughts. Anne Rhodes

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Sue while she cared for several of my pediatric outpatients. I always admired her caring and professional demeanor with the children and their families, and as well appreciated the relationship I developed with her as we worked with children and families. Joyce Yoffa

Ed, Brett and Courtney, I am heartbroken as I am sure you all are! Please know that we have you in our thoughts and prayers. I really enjoyed our time on the tennis team together and watching sports together. We won´t be able to make her service as we are out of town. Will be thinking about all of you. Pete and Korby
