Susan Hearn was my music teacher at Pleasantview, Kindergarten all the way through 5th grade. She made elementary programs fun. Class was always fun as we played with small hand instruments to getting around a bot with recorders, guitars. She helped in the pencil parlor by making unique shaped melted crayons, and kids often got to melt their own crayons in class as well. It was always fun. She did hot and cold games too with a small toy panda that people got to play with. Even made lining up...

Mrs. Hearn was a wonderful music teacher at Pleasantview Elementary. She wrote several songs for our music class and school pageants. I still remember all the lyrics 20 years later :) She was also the sponsor of the Recycling Club and let us have a pool party at her house. Whenever I'd see her, she would always have the warmest smile. She also had the best rewards in her classroom treasure chest! Mrs. Hearn inspired and supported my love of music from a young age.

I taught along side Susan for many years at Pleasantview Elementary, her in music ... me in fifth grade. I have so many memories of her, it would be hard to speak of them all. She would always make to time to talk with me. I loved our warm and touching conversations. She had a way of speaking with her heart wrapped around everything she said. Many times she would close out those talks by calling me a 'wierdo' ... which always made me smile. I introduced her to the computer game of "Bejeweled"...

I was saddened to hear of Susan´s passing. I had the privilege to travel to New Mexico with her and Sarah the Christmas of 1991. What a dear and memorable time! I will always treasure those memories and miss her dearly. Prayers for the repose of her soul and for healing for the rest of her family. Much love. Bev Gipson

I had the pleasure and honor of working alongside Susan for 15 years. The "Specials" teachers (PE and Music) had a unique bond in our building. We did not only share teaching responsibilities but also formed an everlasting friendship. There are to many memories to share. Susan helped me through some difficult times in my personal life as well. I will always cherish the times we shared.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Susan's passing. I worked with her in the Derby school system for many years. She was one of the most professional individuals I've ever known, a fine musician, and a beautiful person, inside and out. She will be missed.
