I just found out about this, and I am so sorry to hear it. I worked for Dr. Preston-Martin back in the seventies at the Los Angeles County Cancer Surveillance Program. She was teaching at two universities at the time, researching, supervising the field representatives (of which I was one) and finding time to raise Jennifer and swim daily at UCLA. Always an inspiration to me.

It was a long, long time ago......
but I can still remember how Susan used to make me smile.
Susan was in those days, as I can image throughout her life, an extraordinary, fascinating, cheerful, witty, talented and loving person. Jennifer was her precious treasure.
Susan showed me ways of how to live your life and they have had a great impact on my life. "Love, work and knowledge are the wellsprings of our life. They should also govern it."

Every time I think of Susan, I think of the laughter we shared on my very first backpacking trip. It was the early 70's and Susan and I hiked ahead of Marty and David. We talked and laughed until we realized we were really getting wet. It was pouring so we all turned around and went back to our Van to wait out the rain. What a fun day! I met Susan in the early 80s whilst she was at the International Agency for Research on Cancer with her lovely husband, David. Susan encouraged me immediately to see myself as professional, take further training and I ended up learning questionnaire design in Maryland and working with her on a childhood brain tumour study.
