Susan Quinlan Obituary

Susan Hady Quinlan passed away at her home on August 27 2025. She leaves to mourn her sons Charles Richard Beekman III (Molly), and Thomas Jeffrey Beekman (Lindsey), her parents Tom and Marilyn Hady, beloved Grandson Dean, and pup, Lexi. She was predeceased by her husband, John James Quinlan.

Susan was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 20, 1961 to Tom and Marilyn Hady. She grew up in Springfield Virginia, graduating from West Springfield High School. She achieved a bachelor's degree from George Mason University in 1983 while working as an intern for the then-named General Accounting Office.

Susan spent 35 years with the U.S. Government Accountability Office. She received countless awards and commendations for her service to the United States Government. In 2010 she relocated to Denver, Colorado to manage the GAO field office, from which she retired in 2016.

After retirement, Susan moved to central Virginia and began volunteer work with the Belmont Food Pantry. Realizing a dream to move to the river, she worked in local politics in Mathews County, Virginia as an advocate for 'common sense' members of the local school board.

A lover of travel, she visited 48 states and over a dozen countries. She felt at home on both coasts, from the Outer Banks, North Carolina to Cannon Beach, Oregon, where her brother Frank Hady and wife Holly share a home. Susan loved reading and never watched a movie more than once. Her favorite place to be was near the water.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7th 2025 at 11am at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Balint Charities, whom Susan worked with to provide free books to the children of Mathews County.

I will remember Susan for her open heart and mind, and her daring spirit to freely share both. In our struggles, may we all remember her, for our need to keep strong connections to the ones we love.

I am so very sorry to hear of Susan´s passing. I met her in Mathews Virginia and found her to be so personable and charming. I enjoyed working with her in our small town "common sense" political group! She was such an asset and helped us reach our goal to get our candidates elected.
May peace be with her family at this sad time.

I am so sad for Susan's family. She was a gift to the Denver GAO Field Office for many years and brought her special humor and wisdom to the position. We missed her as soon as she left and we'll never forget what she brought to our work family. I loved reading her uplifting posts on social media and I know her family is missing her light every day. Here is to Susan, I hope her family finds joy and peace in her memory.

I am so sad to hear this news. I´m very sorry to her family and friends. I loved finding out that she helped get free books to kids. That totally makes sense <3 Much love to her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and I am happy I got to meet Susan

Susan and I worked together a number of years at GAO, building a friendship through this, sharing child care with the kids, and having some fun times. We all are shocked that she left us too soon but hope she has found peace. Our sympathy to the boys and the family.

Susan - you were happiest on the water. We had so much fun on the boat- just you and me cruising the river in Gloucester. You were in your element and were so happy. I miss you.

My deepest condolences to all of Susan's family, she was my neighbor for three and a half years upon her move to Mathews. She was a smart lady and did so love the water, so happy she was here if only for a short time. She talked about her family so much and loved all of you. Remembering your family and may special memories help with your grief.
