Susan Elizabeth Rosen

I think of Dr. Rosen -- and she always was "Dr. Rosen" to me; I never got to know, though I could certainly sense the presence of, that funny, smart, personally as well as politically generous person known by her family and friends. She was my doctor, and my mother's doctor, and the doctor of the mother of one of my best friends. She was a terrific doctor; best I've had or heard of. I will always remember that mischievous smile and laugh. Such courage. Such generosity. She never gave up.

A year after her death I still feel the same deep regard for this wonderful person and regret that she died so young -- but I hope that the passing of time has eased the sorrow of those closest her.

Susan was a dear dear friend for 50 years, and it's hard to imagine a world without her unique generosity, sense of adventure, and full embrace of all life had to offer. I learned so much from her and miss her every day.

Susan was such an inspiration. She accomplished so much in her life and although, I'm sure, she would have wanted to see even more of the world, love more friends, and see her family grow--she took advantage of everything she could in life. It was that twinkle in her eye and her laugh that I will always remember and cherish. She lives on in everyone who knew her.

My heart feels both broken and very full at the news of Susan Rosen's death. She was my doctor for many years, and I believe also for my dear friend Valerie Falk. Even more important to us both, she took care of both of our mothers with such compassion, tact, skill, and grace! in the final years of their lives. She once said to me about Louise, Valerie's mother, What a beauty she was! My clearest thought about Dr. Rosen this morning is, What a blessing she was!

Although I only knew Susan a short time, it didn't take long to see what a kind and wonderful person she was. It was an honor to know her. My deepest sympathy to your family.
