Susan (nee Seale), beloved wife of Gale “Gus” Schmidt, loving mother of Gregory (Greg) and Kathyrn (Kate) Schmidt, sister of Sally Ann Seale and Richard (Scott) Seale, also survived by one grandchild, Drake Porter Cooper-Schmidt. Passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the age of 74. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma, Susan was passionate about the Cincinnati Zoo, the first volunteer gift shop manager, had a life-long love of music (particularly opera and classical) and was an avid rower and sportswoman. A service, followed by a celebration of Susan’s life, has been scheduled for Friday, January 20, 2017, at 10:00 AM at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Hyde Park, 2944 Erie Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45208. Donations for a memorial tree may be made to the Cincinnati Zoo Development, 3400 Vine Street Cincinnati, OH 45220, or to the Cincinnati Opera 30 Garfield Place, Suite 800 Cincinnati, OH 45202, or to The Mariemont School Foundation, 2 Warrior Way Cincinnati, OH 45227.

Not sure what to say?

The rumor is true. There is a video of the Church service. It's on a memory stick - about 9GB long... Gale will have them in a week or so.

Yes, the rumor is true... There is a video of the church service. It's over 9GB long - so it's going to be distributed on memory sticks. Gale will have them in a week or so.

Dear Gus,
We know you will always have lovely memories of Susan. Know that we also will cherish our own fond memories of sweet Susan.
Sincerely,

Dear Gus and family,

My father, Dick Rankin, shared the news of Susan's passing, and I am so saddened for all of you. As you may know, Susan was a dear friend of my mother's, who also passed away too soon. When Susan learned that I served on the staff at Cincinnati Opera, she made a point to seek me out at events and offer a hug, a smile, some warm conversation, and frequently, a special memory about my mom. Somehow she intuitively knew I was always thinking of and missing her, and she...

Dear Gus, Kate and Greg,
Susan's beautiful smile and sparkle are what I remember most about her. What a delightful, high energy person she was and what a joy to be around. My love and empathy as you move forward in life with the essence of Susan in your hearts and such beautiful memories. She really lived life. Leslie and Diana also send their love. Joan

Dear Gus,
Our rowing circle, the No Weak Sisters, will never be the same without Susan. Words don't express our shock, dismay and sadness. We are with you in your sorrow.
Love and hugs,
Libby

Dear Gus and family,
Words are lovely but in a situation such as this, I feel inept. Therefore I am sending hugs, love and prayers to you and yours.
XO--Phyllis Fabian, class of 57-B

Dear Gus, Greg and Kate,
Susan was a dear friend, wonderful lady, and all around amazing woman. Her vivaciousness, spirit and love for life will be deeply missed. Words cannot express my sympathies. May her spirit and cherished memories bring you peace through this difficult time.
Many blessings, with love,
Alicia

Susan was a treasured member of the rowing club. She also had a big smile and positive attitude. I'll never forget how welcoming she always was. I'll miss her! Lisa Hillenbrand
