STONE - Susan Marie Stone passed away peacefully April 28, 2011, at the age of 56. Sue was born May 7, 1954 in Madison, Wisconsin, to Calvin C. and Genevieve M. Peterson. Sue grew up at K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan. She played the flute, was a Girl Scout, and enjoyed vacations camping with her family. It was here Sue met her future husband, Carl E. "Tex" Stone, Jr. in 1968. She graduated from Gwinn High School in 1972, and attended college in Rochester, Minnesota; Northern Michigan University; Mid-America Nazarene College and the University of New Mexico, studying Special Education. During her college years, Sue taught Sunday school. On October 27, 1984, Sue and Tex were married in the chapel at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. They honeymooned in Hawaii. Sue went to work at Albuquerque National Bank in 1980, serving as a branch secretary and teller trainer. In 1992, she was honored by Sunwest Bank for her outstanding service. In November 2010, Sue completed her 30th year at Bank of America. Sue was a long-time member of Holiday Park Church of the Nazarene. She served on the church board and helped develop the women's ministries program. She attended Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study for many years. Sue was a founding member of The Center for Military and Aviation History, serving as secretary/treasurer from its beginning in 1995. In addition to her financial expertise, she lent her creative talent to the design of several award-winning exhibits, as well as cataloguing the Center's extensive collections. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Sue was an avid reader, and she became accomplished in many arts and crafts. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, gardening and cooking. Sue and Tex traveled to Europe, and throughout the United States. She enjoyed researching her family history; she loved listening to her grandparents reminisce, and corresponding with her Norwegian relatives. Throughout her life, Sue was committed to learning, teaching and helping everyone she met. Sue is survived by her husband, Tex of Albuquerque; mother, Gen, of Cresco, Iowa; sister, Anne L. Landswerk and her husband, Gary of Spring Valley, Minnesota; brother, James C. Peterson and his wife Janet of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother, Robert C. Peterson and his wife, Cindy of Denver, Colorado. Services for Sue were held May 4, 2011 in the First Congregational Church of Cresco, Iowa. She rests at Fremont Cemetery in Cresco, beside her father, Cal. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Alvin and Alice Peterson and Marvin and Viola Yngsdahl. Friends of Sue are invited to join in celebration of her life on Saturday, May 21, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Holiday Park Church of the Nazarene, 11435 Montgomery Blvd NE. Memorials may be made to Holiday Park Church or to any charity desired. Our devoted wife, daughter, sister and best friend will remain in our hearts….forever.
