George L Doherty Funeral Service, Inc - Somerville Obituary

Suzanne (Hennessy) Lipsky, of Somerville, passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2023 following a courageous and valiant fight against Pancreatic Cancer, she was 74. Born in New York City, she was the cherished daughter of the late Madeline (Larkin) and John William Hennessy. Raised and educated in New York, she received her master’s degree from Hofstra University. She began her teaching career in New York where she taught English for nine years and then relocated to Massachusetts, where she worked for Lexington Public Schools and met her husband, Paul. She explored other professional opportunities and at one point took a job as a technical writer for the Digital Equipment Corporation.  However she returned to teaching English, once again as she realized that was her passion. As a wonderful teacher, she was beloved by the students and staff, and made a lasting impact after many years of dedicated service.

Following her retirement, she remained active in taking classes and course work in various subjects. A lover of books and equally passionate about writing, she was a member of several writing groups, notably the Grub Street Writers Collaborative. Her passion for writing was matched as a devoted sports fan for the New England teams. Suzanne will be remembered for her love of travel, her strong political opinions, her beautiful smile, but above all for her love of family.

The beloved wife of 36 years to Paul Lipsky of Somerville, she was the cherished daughter of the late Madeline (Larkin) and John W. Hennessy. Dear sister of Joanne Hennessy and her late husband Henry Riemer of Westwood and the late John William Hennessy. Sister-in-law of the late Ellen Lipsky Burt and Gerald Burt. Loving Aunt of Erin and Morgan Hennessy and sister-in-law Mary Hennessy.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Suzanne in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford on Tuesday, February 7th at 12:30 PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. A Live Stream will begin at 12:30PM via the parish Facebook page at:www.facebook.com/SaintRaphaelParishMedford?mibextid=LQQJ4d

Burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org or to the Lustgarten Foundation at  www.lustgarten.org all in support of Pancreatic Cancer research.

Not sure what to say?

Suzanne was my amazing mentor while I was studying to be a teacher. Paul I´m very sorry for your loss and I´ll always cherish her shared wisdom and light. Condolences, Yvonne

If I had to sum Sue up, it would be “life of the party”. She lit up every room with her warmth, words of wisdom, and laughter. Very thankful for all of my memories with her. We will all miss her dearly and remember her forever. My deepest condolences.

Dear Paul, So sorry for your loss. Regards, Denis Taylor - FHLB Boston

During the brief period that we worked together at Digital, Suzanne was a loving and supportive friend at a time when I was trying to sort out who I was and where I was going in life. With her warm smile and playful humor, she reassured me I'd figure it out. And I did. Deepest sympathy to Paul and family for her untimely passing.
