My deepest sympathies to Roger and family. Suzanne and I became instant penpal and phone friends when we joined Seed Savers Exchange in the early 1980's. We shared many long phone calls and were fortunate enough to have several face to face meetings. She was so dedicated to the genetic preservation of rare food crops she will be dearly missed. She did so much to not only save so many rare varieties of crops she also shared her knowledge and skill by writing a book to educate the world.

I purchased CSA boxes from Suzanne for several years. I pick them up at the farm several times. She inspired me to do better with food, to purchase fruits and vegetables that will go extinct if no one buys and uses them. She was so smart. It is hard to believe that Alzheimer´s took her and I bet no one was more surprised and she and her family with the diagnosis. I hope my gift to the hospice will honor her and will help another.

Suzanne was an unwitting pioneer in Sacramento's strong regard for locally grown food. Her arrangement with Produce Express permanently changed restaurant menus -- there is no going back. Her efforts with seed saving was known all over the country. My sympathies to Suzanne's family and all who worked with this brilliant woman.

Suzanne was a true pioneer in Sacramento's farm-to-fork movement and an inspiration for female farmers everywhere. We were CSA clients for a dozen years and now miss her wonderful produce every day. She convinced me to cook and eat veggies I never knew existed before her introduction. I'm proud to have known her.

For over 20 years We have worked at local Placer and Sacramento restaurants serving Suzanne's amazing life's work. One year, we one a day at the farm with Suzanne, and she treated our kids like us to a full farming adventure at Del Rio Botanicals. I enjoyed serving her as well when she would come in to dine. A true original who will be missed greatly in our region.

I'll never forget Suzanne, she was my life mentor. From teaching us to swim as little kids to teaching us all about Heirloom tomatoes and organic farming. She was always very kind and really a good person. We will miss her. I know Suzanne is tending her big Garden in the Sky and is looking down and smiling upon us in heaven. Ray and Yumi Yeung

I remember Suzanne from Crocker School. She and I graduated from high school in 1968. She was so cute and a very sweet person.

My deepest sympathy and prayers are with all of you in Suzanne´s family. Suzanne and I were school friends from Crocker School. Mrs Peabody, you were my favorite teacher! I happily remember your 3 darling daughters with curls. Suzanne and I used to connect occasionally when she was in the Land Park area. It was always a joy to catch up with her and hear about her passion for gardening. I would delight in seeing her in the newspaper for her success with Del Rio Farms. It´s was with...
