McNeece-Morris Funeral Home - Fulton Obituary

In Loving Memory of Suzanne Summerford
February 25, 1951 – July 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share that Suzanne Summerford, 74, passed away peacefully at The Meadows on July 25, 2025.

To know Suzanne was to feel loved. She had a way of making everyone feel like the most important person in the room—whether that person were a lifelong friend, a library visitor, or a child at the dinner table. She loved puzzles, family gatherings, watching Christmas movies, and hand-stitching birth announcements for those she cared about—small, thoughtful acts that added joy to the world around her.

Suzanne was strong-willed and fiercely independent. She was the one who united our family. She never quit and never gave up: she was our inspiration. She held on tightly to the good in people and forgave quickly when we fell short. She brought many years of love, laughter, happiness, and compassion to our family, our community, and to our corner of the world.

She worked at the Itawamba County Library, where she shared her lifelong love of books and learning. For many in the community, Suzanne was the smiling face who recommended a good mystery, helped track down a forgotten title, or simply offered a kind word on a hard day.

She hosted a special “Framily” Christmas party each year—a joyful gathering where friends and family came together to celebrate the season with laughter, warmth, and gratitude. Every January, Suzanne created personalized family birthday calendars, making sure no one’s special day was ever forgotten. Those simple gestures meant the world to those who received them. She thoroughly enjoyed organizing and hosting Class of 1969 reunions at her home.

She is survived by her loving sisters, Jane Floyd (Jimmy), Nancy Witt; her sister-in-law Caroline Summerford Peden (Charlie); and her treasured nephews and nieces: Jim Floyd, Ben Floyd (Tracie), Andy Witt (Katey) , Chris Witt (Christy), Nicole Catt (Doug), Neely Barton (Andy), Bo Summerford, Sam Summerford (Kelsey), Casy Peden (Alyssa), and AJ Dozier; great nephews and nieces: Nick Floyd, Katelee Foster (Ethan), Tucker Witt (Laina), Lauren Catt, Brody Catt, Taylor Earp (Browning), Drake Barton, Summer Witt, Suzie Witt, Paten Floyd, Boone Floyd, Major Floyd, Jax Catt, Owen Floyd, Easton Floyd, Karolyne Witt, Gatlin Summerford, Rowan Summerford, and Ellie Kate Summerford.  The family is grateful to Suzanne’s faithful partner in crime and NASCAR van driver, Tangie "Wiggle" Davis; and a host of incredible friends. She dearly missed the company of her favorite pet cat and constant companion, Bandit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynee and Casper Summerford, her brother Larry Summerford, and her brother-in-law Tommy Witt—all of whom she carried in her heart every day. Suzanne was a lifelong member of Fulton United Methodist Church. She was the embodiment of her favorite Bible verse: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held Monday, July 28, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with the Rev. Andy Ray officiating. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 1 p.m.  Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Jim Floyd, Ben Floyd, Andy Witt, Chris Witt, Bo Summerford, and Sam Summerford.  Honorary pallbearers are Nick Floyd, Boone Floyd, Major Floyd, Tucker Witt, Doug Catt, Brody Catt, Andy Barton, Drake Barton, Casy Peden, Browning Earp, and Ethan Foster.

Suzanne never let anyone walk out the door without saying, “Oh, I was going to ask you one more thing…”—her sweet way of holding on to someone just a moment longer. In that spirit, we’ll hold on to her a little longer, too—in stories, in laughter, and in the quiet comfort she brought to all of us.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Fulton United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 907, Fulton, Mississippi 38843.

McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with Suzanne's arrangements.

Not sure what to say?

i went to school with suzanne . i was a year a head of her. very sad of her death . really going to miss her. she was a very good friend. Diane L Robinson class 68

Suzanne was funny, considerate, compassionate, kind and determined. My parents, Merwyn and Bobbie Stephens, treated her like one of their own. I have so many memories from our childhood until recently that I won't list them. I'm so sorry for your sadness, Nancy and Jane.

She and I had many laughs together over the years. I made an effort to cross the street and visit her any time I was back in MS visiting mom. Suzanne often came over to mom's also on those visits. I have so many memories since we were little children that I can't list them all. Merwyn and Bobbie cared for her like one of their own. She was compassionate, a good listener, caring, kind and determined. She is missed already. We love her family and I'm so sorry for your sadness, Nancy and...

Oh what a special gal and friend Suzanne was! She had more determination and will power all through her life! She joined us in junior high in everything we did! Those spend the night parties and nights a the Dixie Theater and school fun! How could anyone not love Suzanne? She was like a sister to all our gang! She was one of us! We are so excited she is now fully healed and dancing with Jesus, talking and praising him as he must be saying Job well done my child! Love you and we will see you...

It breaks my heart to know I won't get to laugh & cutup with Suzanne in this life anymore. But it makes me feel blessed that I had a cousin who was one of the most wonderful people I know. Suzanne was such a joy & cared so much for everyone else she met. She taught me that nothing is too difficult to overcome, and I admired her so much. She was one of my Favorites! I know Heaven is so glad to have you. You will be missed dearly until we meet again.

I was overcome with sadness but also happy memories when I learned of the passing of Suzanne. We grew up in the same neighborhood south of Fulton and spent many happy, carefree days together playing "house". She had a loving spirit that brought out the best in others and will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Rest in peace dear one.

Oh, Suzy Q, we will miss you so much with that big smile that brightened our day? You were an inspiration to me because of your strength and determination and you have touched so many lives because of that! Enjoy your walks on the streets of gold with our Heavenly Father my friend.

I am heartbroken to learn of Susanne's passing. She truly was a sweet soul, radiating kindness and warmth to everyone she met. Every time I saw her, she took the time to engage with me, making me feel valued and cherished. Her gentle spirit touched so many lives, and her absence will be deeply felt. I hope that the love and memories you hold in your hearts bring you comfort during this difficult time.

Suzanne was such a sweet soul. We will miss her here on earth but Heaven is rejoicing for her return home. Thank you Jesus for sharing her with the world.
