I am just a reader of her books but I really enjoyed them. The Holdfast Chronicles are some of my favorites. Suzy was also very kind when I wrote to her by email asking her questions. I always loved reading anything with her views - even if I saw things differently sometimes she seemed always an intelligent thinker and great storyteller. I owe this lady, who never knew she was a mentor to a would-be writer back in the day.

On my first trip to Sante Fe in 199-something for a Jane Austen Society conference, my mother and I flew into Albuquerque. I had checked the Barnard 1961class list and contacted Suzy, who met us for lunch and directed us to a wonderful crafts gallery as well as the marvelous hot air balloon festival. She was writing science fiction at that time, and had not yet published her very moving memoir of her relationship with her father. We had known each other slightly at Barnard, but reconnected...

Suzy, my sister, was a mentor and I loved her fiercely. I just moved in with her seven months ago, and so was with her when she died. We laughed and had wonderful times. I so miss my wonderful, hysterically funny, brilliant sister, Suzy. Love for all time, Liza
