Not sure what to say?

I mourn the loss of Sylvan and the work we engaged in at the United Nations. He was a tower of strength in the Rotary and in the everyday workings of the UN civil society organizations. Rest in peace dear friend, secure in the knowledge that we fought the fight and won more than anyone will ever know.

Barney's work at the United Nations in Education, Population and Development was heroic. Always a strong supporter of the UN's humanitarian efforts, he was a leader and a friend to all who knew him. We miss him already.

Respected and honored as our "Rotary Sage,"
Sought out by people of every culture and age.
That was Barney, my colleague and friend.
He had a meaningful life to the very end.
Helen Reisler

My condolences to you. You had such wonderful parents. Barney and DeDe were great friends of my parents, Helen and Carlton Fishel and we spent many wonderful times with them at Caneel Bay. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Barney was a great mentor and friend. He will be missed.

Brad Jenkins, Rotary Representative to the UN

Barney was a giant, a regal lion and my Rotary hero. I will miss you friend.
-Rick Martin, President 2014-15 RCNY #6

Our Condolences to Peter and Bruce.
Barney and Dee Dee were wonderful friends w. my folks, Bobby & Geral Sour, and their daughters (my sisters).
With all his accomplishments I most remember his resounding, genial, joy-filled laugh.
Sadness -yet the celebration of a life well lived.

Barney was a gem! After an extraordinary career in publishing, serving his country and public relations - Barney joined NY Rotary and added another amazing chapter to an already amazing life. It was a pleasure to work with Barney on many projects, to be part of the NYR Foundation where we served together for a number of years and to sit and talk to this wonderful man. Barney gave all that knew him a glimpse into what a life well lived was meant to be whether as a humanitarian, patriot or...

I too was saddened to learn of Sylvan's death. He was such a leader of NGO folks at the UN and did so much to present and defend the work of the UN. I knew him through CTAUN and conferences, and remember always his ability to remember everyone, to make them feel valued. An incredible kindness, marvelous personal attributes, in addition to a life of achievement. Sincere condolences to his family, from one of the NGO volunteers who remembers him forever.
