Sylvia Alpert Cohen Bernstein
Bangor, ME Sioux City, IA Lantana, FL
Sylvia Alpert Cohen Bernstein, 97 years young, of Lantana, FL, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2013. She was born on February 22, 1916, to Isadore and Mary Alpert in Bangor, ME. She graduated from the University of Maine in 1937 with a degree in biology and worked as a medical technologist. In 1945, she married Meyer Cohen (deceased in 1964) of Sioux City, Iowa. In 1981, she retired to Lake Worth, FL. with Herbert Bernstein (deceased in 1997).
Sylvia was famous for her pies and her expertise in bridge. She was also extremely interested in current events and was an avid reader. Her pride and joy were her three children, their spouses, and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Cohen (Carol) of Rancho Bernardo, CA, Illene Courtright (John) of Newark, DE, Merrylee Kandel (Dr. Joseph) of Naples, FL; and grandchildren, Michael (Samaire), Anna, and Alex Cohen, Merissa and Abby Courtright, Max, Hannah, and Geena Kandel. She is also survived by her brother, Sidney Alpert.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 12th (TODAY) at 2:00 p.m. at Naples Memorial Gardens.
