Tom and I are so sad to hear of Sylvia's passing. She suffered greatly the past couple years. She was a great librarian and friend. When I started with the City of LA at the age of 17, she was my first boss, in the children's section of the old Eagle Rock Library. What a great example of work ethic and public service! I am sad to hear the passing of Sylvia Emery. She was a wonderful lady. Sylvia was my very first supervisor at the Malabar Library located Los Angeles in the community in which I grew up. I worked at the library for 14 years. Sylvia was very much involved in the community & local school as the Senior Librarian. The community embraced her as she was part of it. I have many fond memories of Sylvia. She was funny (sharing so many stories), caring and so helpful to all her patrons and she loved...

My Aunt was a wonderful lady who helped a lot of younger kids appreciate music and the arts. She had a good sense of humor and a love for teaching. I'll miss her.
