It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the sudden passing of Sylvia Mae Tayfel (nee Swiatkowski), age 83, who passed away October 14, 2024. Born and raised in Cleveland's Slavic Village, she met the love of her life William, who she married in 1959. Their marriage, built upon the shared values of faith and devotion to family, was an inspiration to their children. Her unparalleled commitment to family extended to the watching of all eight of her grandchildren before they reached school age. More recently she loved nothing more than celebrating the milestones and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren as well as the multi-generational beach vacations that became a treasured family tradition. She was devoted to her faith and an active member of St. Basil the Great Church. She would often be seen lighting votive candles and offering prayers anytime her children or grandchildren faced trials in their life. Sylvia's life was a testament to the beauty of faith, the importance of family, and the joy found in friendship. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Beloved wife of 65 years to William. Loving mother to Brenda Spear (Kevin), Lesley Chalmers (Michael), and Eric Tayfel (Jill). Cherished grandma to Jessica Kraner (Zachary), Ryan Spear (Juliana), Justin Spear, Brandon Spear (Lilia), Christine Chalmers (deceased), Jonathan Chalmers, Kaitlyn Chalmers, Lindsay Tayfel, and Madison Tayfel. Great grandma to Margot Kraner and Harper Kraner. Raised by the late George and Mary Swiatkowski. Daughter of the late Regina Hance (George). Sister to the late Martin, Frank, Florence, Theresa, and Patricia. Aunt and friend to many. Visitation Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at FORTUNA FUNERAL HOME, 7076 Brecksville Rd., Independence, OH 44131. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, October 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basil the Great Church, 8700 Brecksville Rd, Brecksville, OH 44141 (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment All Saints Cemetery.

Sylvia´s family has written the perfect obituary for her, stressing Faith, Family, and Friendship, the most important things in her life. Sylvia is my cousin and very dear friend. We grew up together, born only 10 months apart, and shared many experiences over the years, so I would like to add Fun to the list because that describes much of our relationship. We were naive and silly together when young and had the same sense of humor to get us through the more difficult coming of age years. ...

It is with gratitude and sadness that I remember Sylvia. She was so involved in the life of Trinity High when her children were there. She had a delightful sense of humor and the love that she and Bill shared was apparent. I send my condolences to Bill and Eric and the whole Tayfel family and all those who were touched by Sylvia's love and spirit. Know that she was welcomed home into the arms of the God she loved and served throughout her life. She is at peace but the love she had for...
