T. Michael Sanders

Didn't learn of Mike's death until this morning. One of my favorite people, with a great, dry sense of humor. Rode a lot of miles with him, did a bunch of triathlons together. He was a joy to be around. (and he was also the only swimmer I ever knew who actually went backwards when holding a kickboard and doing the flutter kick.)

When I joined the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society in the early 70's, Mike was my tutor for the bike rides in the country around the city. He was a great mentor and I learned a lot from him about long distance rides. This was important to me because my entire family also took up bike touring. I have many memories of my rides with Mike.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

While I never had the good fortune to take a course from Mike, getting to know him while a graduate student spending a lot of time in the second basement of Randall Laboratory was one of the high points of my experience there. I particularly enjoyed hearing of his bicycling activities, and of his interest in the Italian language, and I would often wander down the hall to his lab to chat with his graduate students when I needed a break, and enjoyed many discussions with him on a wide variety...
