In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holt International Children's Services, the agency that cared for Taru as a baby in Vietnam and facilitated his adoption by Thom and Ann here in the USA. You can use the contribution link provided on this page. Thank you.

I had the honor of meeting Taru a few times during gatherings at Thom and Susan´s home. He was kind, funny, talented and clearly loved his family so much. Taru was just one of those people who made you feel like the world was a wonderful place and news of his passing weighed very heavily on my heart. Deepest condolences to his family and all who knew and loved dear Taru.

Taru was in the first class I ever taught as an adjunct instructor at KCAI. I don't remember every student but I certainly remember Taru's passion, work ethic, dedication and positive attitude. He helped teach me to become the professor I am today and for that I will be forever grateful. It's said a teacher's influence is felt through eternity. Taru's influence will be felt through my teaching for as long as I continue. John Ferry Professor Kansas City Art Institute

I was always happy to see Taru at Whole Foods altho I didn´t know his name. Obviously a man of intelligence and integrity. My condolences.

Though I never knew his name, I well knew his face and his helpfulness over the years. I am shocked and saddened by his passing and wish all who cared for him peace during this difficult time.

Taru served me many times at Whole Foods, He was always friendly and helpful. To his family, I am sorry for your loss.

Taru truly was - and is - one of my favorite and most important people. He and I were longtime sweethearts and even longer friends. I will always miss him. My heart is heavy. * Photo is us in 1998.
