Andrews Mortuary - Hampstead Chapel Obituary

Tavish Wetherill, age 23, died at home on July 27, 2024, after a long illness.

He passed while surrounded by his mother, father, and brother. His two windows were opened after his final breath, and his spirit was released.

Tavish’s life came in two parts: before and after age 14. The springtime part of his life was fulfilling. He had a natural, kind personality and readily excelled in school. He was surrounded by nature and roamed in the woods behind his house and enjoyed many long days at the beach, mostly at the Point at the southern end of Topsail Island. He spent several summers in the mountains and grew deeply fond of the surrounding trees and hills.

A proficient and creative artist, he created comic books and excelled in portraits. In the second phase of his life he met adversity, yet his inner core remained unchanged and undaunted. He graduated from high school with honors and attended Appalachian State University. Instilled with a love of learning, he took additional classes at Cape Fear Community College in Surf City. With a keen desire to improve, he grew stronger and more fluid exercising at the local gyms and came to love his kind and dedicated trainers, and appreciate the encouragement and camaraderie of those who worked out. He enjoyed travel and adventure, jetting around the country and two continents.

Tavish leaves behind his mother Alison Wetherill, father Sean and brother Nevin of Surf City, NC, grandparents Bill and Karen Wetherill of Wilmington, NC, his uncle William and aunt MacKenzie Wetherill also of Wilmington and their children, and many other family members.

His courage, joy, kindness, optimism and determination inspired all who knew him. He will forever be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.

Not sure what to say?

Sincerest condolences to Alison and the entire Wetherill family.
Tavish, who I met more recently in his journey, lifted all hearts with his zest for life, indomitable spirit, and unabashed determination to keep moving forward.
Having known him was my good fortune.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Tavish. He was a joy to have in art class always challenging me with his creative ideas. I send your family prayers and love during this difficult time.

Love Hugs blessings to all who made his as best as possible and he crammed a lifetime into his short life. My heart hurts for the of your precious Tavish. ❤

Bill and Karen our thoughts are with your family.

Words cannot describe how sorry I am for your loss. I can’t imagine your pain and grief at this time. Tavish was always a joy to be around, I’m glad we got the chance to talk to each other not to long ago. I was so happy he remembered me.

I had the privilege of working with Tavish at Topsail High School. Despite his illness, Tavish was resilient and continued to let his bubbly personality shine! He inspired others, and he inspired me. My condolences to his family.

"No one's absent in mind None gone
Tell me the truth I want to say
Tell me all you know Will we live
or die As if the world were apart
and whatever tree seen were only here apparent
Answers, live and die. Believe."
- Robert Creeley

No one's absent in mind. None gone. Especially you, my friend.
