Terence O'Brien Murphy, age 69, died January 24, 2010.

Terry was born to William and Pearl (Kinner) Murphy on January 8, 1941, in Douglas, Wyoming. When he was 9, his family moved to Edgemont, S.D. Upon graduation in 1959, he joined the U.S. Navy and sailed on the USS Edisto. He was discharged in 1962 and married Elva Cooke in Medford, Mass. They lived in Edgemont, S.D., and had 4 children, Deb (Dave) Pflaum, Jim (Angie) Murphy, Lisa (Scott) Shepard, and Linda (David) Byers.

Terry lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, for several years. In the late 1990's, he began to feel his need of the Lord. He listened to the gospel and received peace again in his heart. In 2005, Terry moved to the Black Hills in S.D., and enjoyed having fellowship as his health allowed. In September 2007, he suffered a stroke and moved to Council Bluffs. At the time of his death, he was living at Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph; sisters, Wilma, Grace, and Beatrice "Bunny".

He is survived by his 4 children; 8 grandchildren, Sam and Jolene Pflaum, Lukas and Caleb Byers, Alan and Rachel Shepard, Ashley and Melissa Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Memorial service, Saturday, 2 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. A lunch will follow at Hoover Elementary School. Memorials may be directed to the family. It was Terry's wish to donate his earthly body to Anatomical Science.
