Mom's long stay in the nursing facility, though difficult, provided a unique time for me to become even closer to her. I treasure every trip I made to visit her over the last two 1/2 years: the silence, laughing, crying, singing, listening to music, and yes, even dancing for her. She engaged with each one of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in a way that made us feel singularly special and loved.

Mom certainly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed the companionship of the teachers she worked with. She cared deeply about her students and was still talking about the students that she thought she made the biggest difference with.
Besides lots of love, Mom helped me play small fry basketball when Dad was against it. She taught proper table manners and good grammer which I appreciated later in life. Just one year ago she told me about laundering a...
