Teresa Riederer, age 57, passed away on May 9, 2012, at Sherwood House in Kansas City, Mo. Teresa was proud of her participation in Special Olympics. Teresa took the Confirmation name Paula after her brother Paul. For fun, she liked to be addressed as "Tess Paula," which would bring a huge smile to her loving face. Teresa's favorite movie was The Sound of Music; she loved to sing along to "Do-Re-Me" and "Edelweiss," and to croon along with John Denver's recordings. Christmas was an especially happy time for her. Teresa's parents lovingly accepted her specialness, always expecting family and friends to help her develop her abilities to the fullest. Everyone who met Teresa fell in love with her spirit, her loving personality and her spunk. Teresa became a client of Concerned Care in Clay County MO in 1976. With their guidance, Teresa acquired many skills, always moving to the next higher level and holding jobs that used her skills; she even lived in an apartment of her own, for a time, and took the bus to work. She enjoyed good health throughout her life until Alzheimer's began to claim her love of life at age 50. Teresa's family expresses special thanks to her caregivers at Sherwood House, where she lived for seven years, for making her last months comfortable and peaceful with the aid of NorthCare Hospice. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sue Riederer; her two oldest brothers, John H. Riederer and Frank Riederer; her sister-in-law Penny Karson Riederer; and her brother-in-law, Don Pedreyra. Teresa is remembered by her guardian and best friend, Sandra Midkiff; her five sisters, Barbara Riederer Dastoor, Elizabeth (Lolly) Ried, Lucie Riederer (Randy Williams), Denise Riederer Murphy (Walter Murphy), and Christine Riederer; her brothers, Steve Riederer, Albert Riederer (Sandra Midkiff), Paul (Susan) Riederer; her sister-in-law, Lanti Frey Riederer; 12 nieces and nephews, and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews. Teresa's family gives profound thanks to Concerned Care for their loving care and devotion to Teresa throughout her years with them. The family requests no flowers; instead, the family suggests memorial donations in Teresa's name to Concerned Care, Inc.; 320 Armour Road, Suite 101; North Kansas City, MO 64116. Visitation on Sunday, May 13, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Mo. The Rosary will be said at 3:00 pm.
