Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Teresa (Terri) Gayle Sullivan, 10/3/1953-9/18/2023

Terri, age 69 passed away peacefully and on her own terms at The Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida with Tim and Dori by her side. Terri was preceded in death by her parents Gail and Barbara (Akridge) Brookshier, her two brothers Steve and Brad, stepfather Daryl Hensley and former husband, Edward Sullivan.

Terri had recently moved to Neptune Beach, Florida, where she was looking forward to sharing her beach house with her life partner, Tim, and of course, friends and family; all were to be welcomed. Terri’s friendships spread far and wide and she always took the time to stay connected and continued to foster relationship which were of the upmost importance to her. She taught elementary school, which was her passion, for over half of her life and continued to keep connections with so many of her fellow teachers, students and their families, all equally meaning so much to her.  Yoga and meditation were a daily part Terri’s life, a practice that provided her with peace, strength and good breathing practices which ultimately helped extend her life.

Terri loved spending time with family; her niece NaNette (daughter of Steve) (Michael), great niece Madison and great nephews Jacob and Beau, all who brought great joy to her life. Her greatest gift from Ed were his daughters, Linda (Gary) and JoAnn (Mark) and his son, Eddie (Tracy)  who welcomed Terri into their family, along with the gift of grandchildren (Heather, Ryan, Jennifer and Christina), and her beloved great grandchild, Noah, all making life that much sweeter.  The children of her cousin Dori (Randy) being Connor and Jonathan, called her “Aunt Terri” and shared life events and holidays with her. Cousins Cheryl, Karen, John and Cindy spent time together at 518 Oak St and Lake Fenton. She was truly blessed and was a gift to all her extended family members. Terri was a light in the world, her strong faith provided her such comfort and she looked forward to seeing the Lord and all her family in Heaven.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 Bristol Road, Flint, with Pastor Rob Prince officiating. An entombment will follow the service at Flint Memorial Park.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Dori & Family, I am just finding out about this. I am SO sad and distraught that I was unaware and therefore unable to attend the services. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Terri. She was a mentor to me as a new teacher. Prayers for her and all of you. I also loved and adored both of your parents. Peace & Blessings, Kasey Hamilton Cronin

Terri, The steadys crew and myself will miss you so much. You were a one-of-a-kind customer who became our friend. Your calls to check in on us during Covid. To always having a smile on your face even when times were tough. I loved our talks and your hugs I couldn´t wait for us to be pen pales. You´ll be forever missed my friend ~Nichol Albiar

Terri and I met when she was my 3rd grade teacher and she came back into my life after the death of my mother, an angel sent to me when I needed her most. I will always be grateful for having had these last years with her, where my teacher became a very dear friend. I am going to miss her so much.

Terri was the most wonderful teacher that anyone could ask for . She was so intelligent but taught straight from her heart. She treated each child as an individual to give them the education they needed. She taught our children over 35 years ago but we still talk about how awesome she was.Thank you for sharing your light with us Terri! Rest peacefully as you continue to shine!
