Terrence Stapleton Obituary
OLYMPIA, WA - Terrence I. Stapleton, 67, of Olympia, Wash., formerly of Springfield, Ill., died Apri1 1, 2016, following a long illness.
Terry was the son of the late John P. and Velma R. Stapleton. He was a 1966 graduate of Griffin High School and received his BA from University of Illinois at Springfield.
Terry served two years in the U.S. Army from 1970-72, after which he received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas.
Terry was formerly employed at Central Illinois Light Co. (CILCO).
He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and was employed by the Illinois Commerce Commission before taking a position with the Washington State Public Utilities Commission in 1990. He was retired.
Terry is survived by his sisters, Virginia Kunz of Springfield, and Pat Stapleton of Sigel, Ill.; brothers: John (Nancy) of Downers Grove, Kevin of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mark (Carol) of Springfield; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins.
The family wishes to thank Joey Walker, his dear friend and caregiver, for the past eight years.

Per Terry's wishes, he was cremated by Funeral Alternatives of Lacey. Wash.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Terry became my boss in 1990 when he came to work at the Washington Commission. After the initial skirmishes between our two strong personalities settled down :) we got along famously. I valued his input in my career and his friendship. RIP Terry.

I met Terry in Springfield in 1982, and we remained friends ever since. He was always very sweet and generous and kind to me. I regret that I did not make more of an effort in recent years to stay in touch and try to help or make things easier for him. It broke my heart when I called him a few years ago and he had no idea who I was, so I was afraid to call again. He was a good man, and I should have been a better friend. Thank you, Terry, for being a gentleman and an all-around good guy. And thank you Joey, for taking great care of him. He was lucky to have you in his life.
