Not sure what to say?

Farewell Thane. We were thinking of you when discussing a case you helped us with many years ago. You were a valiant advocate. Sorry you´re not still with us. Rod and Tami Cooper.

Thane and I shared a birthday, same day, same year. We met as his partner at the time and my husband worked together and she invited us to their house for dinner. At that time Thane and I discovered we shared a birthday, same day, same year. It was the beginning of a great friendship. We stayed in touch and after I moved to New York he came to visit and was my date to the MTV AWARDS at Radio City. I had friend who worked there and got us great seats mingling with folks we´d only seen on...

I worked for Thane when I first moved to PDX about 30 years ago. Even though our time together was short lived at Mitchell Lang, he took a chance on me and I learned much from him about maritime law. I remember him as a fairly tough guy, super intelligent, the best speller in the world, and gushing on and on in his office to his baby girl - he loved you soooo much.

I'm shocked and saddened to learn today of the loss of Thane. My relationship with him started as a client after a business contact replied to my query for a referral and said, Thane Tienson is the person you need to call. It morphed into an extremely grateful client who marveled at Thane's good counsel and effectiveness and as with so many people he touched, the relationship became a lasting friendship. Thoughtful, bright, articulate, caring were just a few of Thane's traits. We...

I worked with Thane on an eighteen month research study for the City Club of Portland. Thane was the chair of the study. I also knew Thane because I worked at a law firm across the street from his office.

Thane was an extremely intelligent, exuberant, charismatic personality. Our study was only supposed to last a year and one of the reasons it went on so much longer was that the Research Committee (about ten people) enjoyed discussing peripheral issues such as environmental...

Thanks very much to Thane for everything he did to help the Chinook Tribe towards getting federal recognition.

I am saddened and surprised to learn of Thane's passing. I knew and worked with Thane for many years. He was a generous, caring man who was always smiling and was quick with his wit. I was always in awe of his many accomplishments and the indelible imprint he left on the community and the state. We shared a love of history and had in common service time in Vietnam. Both during my tenure in the Legislature and while at Metro I knew I could call on Thane for advice and could trust his...

I am still shocked by our sudden and unexpected loss. Thane reached out to me years ago and we quickly became friends and colleagues. He was a true gentleman, a whip-smart ethical lawyer and advocate for justice. I always valued his advice. I am a better person for having known and worked with him.

What a rare pleasure to have known Thane during this past year! I was most impressed with his kindness, zest for life, and decades of pro bono work for disadvantaged peoples—such as a small Native American tribe on the NW coast of Washington.
