Representative Alcee Hastings, in addition to fighting for many groups and causes, was an ardent advocate for education. He truly valued and welcomed visits from teachers and students. As a long time teacher and education union leader I witnessed his support, respect and admiration for teachers, first-hand. Broward County was so fortunate to have him as a "peoples advocate".
