Akron – Thelma Louise Barlette, 88, a member of the "Greatest Generation" passed away June 19, 2013.
Although born in Cuyahoga Falls on June 24, 1924, Thelma lived most of her life in Akron.
She was the daughter of John and Belle Gill. Thelma was one of 9 children and was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband of 68 years, Sheldon and siblings; John, Ellis, Owen, Catherine, Juanita, Margaret, Beulah, and Dorothy; she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon William (Phyllis) Barlette, Jr; daughters and son-in-law, Donna Rininger (Glenn) of Florida, and Priscilla Barlette-Garrett of Florida; grandchildren, Dara McKnight (David), Sean Barlette (Lisa), Rachel Garrett of Florida, Sarah Garrett of Florida, Christianna Bobo (Todd) of Florida, Noelle Stuteville (Todd ) of Tennessee, Glenn Rininger III (Christine) of Florida , Wade Rininger (Anna) of Florida, Rhonda Rininger of Florida and 16 great-grand-children.
She was a member of Forest Hill Community Church, Eastern Star and the Chapel Hill Walkers Club.
Following her early work (Rosy the Riveter) during WWII she devoted her life to her family and her marriage of 68 years. As an "empty nester", Thelma re-entered the workforce in the Polsky's Department Store lamp department.
Her volunteer activities included President of Forest Hill PTA, Vacation Bible School, Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownies, Forest Hill Garden Club and Meals on Wheels.
She loved to cook, sew, crochet, garden and travel. Thelma and Shell were able to see much of the United States due to the generosity of their good friends, Joe and Nancy Metzger's Prevost motor coach.
The family wishes to especially thank: Pastor Dave Shew, Summa Health's Akron City Hospital, Falls Village rehabilitation facility, Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls, Compassionate Care Hospice and Thelma's "neighborhood team"; Carolyn, Beryl and Kristine.
One of the greatest rewards in life is to be remembered, thanks for remembering Thelma.
Services and Cremation have taken place and final resting place is Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
