Groton - Thelma T. (Jarvin) Burnett, 92, of Groton, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at her home.

Thelma was born on Aug. 31, 1921, in New London, the daughter of the late Uuno and Ellen (Sunderlin) Jarvin. She graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School in 1939.

She was married to George A. Burnett on Oct. 17, 1941; who predeceased her on Nov. 14, 1983.

She was a great knitter, loved crossword puzzles, the jumble, and playing bingo. She made the best fudge, Finnish coffee bread, Finnish pancakes, and chocolate cream pie. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Donna Stadtmiller of Niantic; son, Stephen F. Burnett and his wife, Wendy, of Mystic; granddaughters, Lauren W. Burnett and Kelly Ferguson; and two great-grandsons, Hunter and Carter. She is also survived by her sister, E. Tuuli (Jarvin) Nahas and nephew, Philip "Buddy" Nahas, who were always there when needed; sisters-in-law, Jeannette Burnett and Joan Kaiser; brother-in-law, Arthur Burnett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thelma was predeceased by her brother, Don "Tauno" Jarvin; sister, Toini Millikin; and son-in-law, Bill Stadtmiller.

The family wishes to thank Johnna, who took such loving care of our mother.

Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton, is assisting her family with graveside services which will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
