Not sure what to say?

For those of us watching sadly as our own "greatest generation," the first leaders of Physical Medicine and Rehabiliation, ride out into the sunset... We need to stay strong and hold out hope we can keep their legacy alive, and to always remember we stand on the shoulders of those who came before.

Ted's untimely death is shocking, it is so sad that he didn't live on to inspire and lead in his unique and adventurous way. My heart goes out to Sandra, his children and grandchildren.

As a fellow classmate of the Winchester High School class of 1949 I want to extend my sorrow upon hearing of Ted's passing. He was a fine example to others.

So sorry to lose my old friend and teacher from the Univ. of Minn. days in the 60's. He was witty, sharp, articulate, and often controversial in his progressive thinking and I enjoyed being in his company. He and Sandy knew how to throw wonderful Parties! I often think of our trips on the St. Croix river with our families. Our paths crossed infrequently but I feel his loss after all these years. Best wishes Sandy.

I attended the University of Michigan Medical School from 1980-1984, not long after Dr. Cole became Chairman. I did a rotation in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in my senior year and I distinctly remember seeing a patient with him. He was kind, compassionate, patient centered and a truly holistic care provider. I subsequently did a PM&R residency. He added so much to our field. The world has lost an inspired, gentle spirit. I was saddened by Ted's passing. I knew him as a friend and fellow lover of the arts, who had a brilliant and perceptive mind, who has an admirable family, and whose contributions throughout his career were truly remarkable. My heart goes out to his family, and in remembrance of his lasting influence in his career and community.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Sandra and family in the passing of your beloved Ted. May you find strength and comfort in the love and support of friends, family, and colleagues surrounding you during this difficult time. Sandra Nohre, PhD and Mario A. Petrini, MD

Ted was my friend, confidante and coach.
I will sorely miss him.

Ted was a warm, engaging colleague, a credit to the University, and an admired contributor to his profession. We miss him.
