Theodore James Rachofsky

After school at the American School Foundation in Guadalajara, Mexico where I worked back in 1985-1986, I used to see Ted out on the soccer field in the late afternoon sun playing on his trombone. He was a lovable teddy bear of a man who talked of his resistance to the Vietnam War well over a decade earlier, much closer to those times than the present. He really loved children. We both loved children. That's why we were teachers.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and former math teacher in college. Ted was a brilliant mathematician with an undeniable ability to teach, he was kind, thoughtful, funny, and cared deeply for his students. May he rest in eternal peace.

We taught together at the American School Foundation in Guadalajara in 1985-1986. We played basketball with the kids after school. Those were hard times, but we were strong people.
