Theodore Roosevelt Ross Jr. passed away on June 29, 2024 at Clyde W. Cosper State Veterans Home in Bonham, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.


Roosevelt (Skooney) was born to Theodore Roosevelt Ross Sr. and Millie Weatherby Ross on November 13, 1931 in Bonham, TX. He was educated in the Bonham Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1950. Roosevelt proudly served in the United States Army in Tanker Company #179 Infantry Regiment during the Korean War, as a driver. After returning home from service he attended GI School in Commerce, TX.


On March 31, 1956 he married his best friend, Vera Elizabeth Smith and the Lord blessed them with 68 wonderful years. In 2006 their nieces and nephews honored them with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration of love. Roosevelt was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon in 1969. He faithfully served in various roles including superintendent of the Sunday School and benevolent fund committee. Roosevelt was also a soloist in the senior choir. In the community he was an active member of the Progressive Citizen's League and worked many years for First National Bank of Bonham, TXU Power Plant in Savoy as well. After retirement he met many good friends while driving for Adventure in Travel. Roosevelt enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to vacations and new adventures. 


He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Ross Sr. and Millie Weatherby Ross, brothers, Billy Ray and Lawrence Edward Ross and sister, Jean Elizabeth (Peaches) Mayberry, and nephews, Gene and Joe Ross. 


Mourning his loss includes his wife, Vera Elizabeth Ross, special nephews and nieces, Bobby Ray and Shelia Ross, Tonja and Elijah Palmer, Barbara Sha Ross, Terry Ross and Becky, Gerry Ross and Carla, Tony and Khalilah Ross, Lawrence and Pam Ross, Nakita and Melvin Stewart, Lisa Ross, Stevie Mayberry, Vonnie and Ruthie Mayberry, and a host of other relatives and friends.  


Roosevelt's service will be Friday, July 5th at the First Baptist Church in Bonham, starting at 1pm. Visitation will be 1hr prior with burial following at Fannin Memorial Gardens.

I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you. Roosevelt was such a kind man and he will be missed.

I have so many memories of visiting with Mr Roosevelt and Mrs Vera, and Ms Forrest, too. My grandparents lived right down the street. Sending love and prayers to your family. Roosevelt was a wonderful man.
