Theodore “Ted” Schultz passed peacefully Monday, March 6, 2023 in his sleep after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. His loving wife Barbara was by his side, day in and day out, as she has been for 63 years.

Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

Mr. Schultz will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.

Theodore was born in Alpena, Michigan on July 17, 1934, the son of the late Theodore and Anna (Buczkowski) Schultz.

Ted loved spending time and bragging about his family, especially the accomplishments of his 6 grandchildren who cherished him dearly.

A skilled craftsman, who could build almost anything out of a block of wood and a table saw, Ted was also an avid puzzle builder for many years. Everyone in his family has decorations, pictures, toys, custom signs, framed puzzle pictures and household solutions “built by dad.”

Ted cherished the time he spent fishing “up north” on Hubbard Lake, hunting at the Back Forty hunting camp with family, friends and especially his oldest son, Kevin. He loved the smell, sounds, look and warmth of a real fire and could be counted on to have a fire going in the fireplace at home from early October through April and sometimes into May if Barb was still freezing.

Always a friend to strangers, he was loved by so many including those that cared for him in his final months. A Wheel of Fortune fan during the day, he also loved watching the Lions, Red Wings, and Tigers; and rooted for either the Wolverines or Spartans depending on which of his children Steven or Jenny were nearby.

He leaves behind his wife Barbara of Grand Blanc, MI; Brother Don of Alpena, MI; son Steven, daughter-in-law Gail, grandchildren Kylie and Connor of Hampton, NH; daughter Jennifer McKay, son-in-law Jeff, grandchildren Dylan, Nellie and Jake of Grand Blanc, MI; grandson, Hunter of Royal Oak, MI.

Ted was preceded in death by his son, Kevin of Grand Blanc, MI.

Sadly missed Ted, our talks on the dock in Hubbard Lake, yes we even shared few beers & sneak of a cig. Cherish our friendship forever; heaven sent another

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Barb and all of your family, I am so sorry for your great loss. May your tender memories and abiding love bring comfort. Barb, I have such fond memories of our teaching at MSD. You, Tillie, and Elaine were so supportive of my beginning years learning how teach our beloved deaf children. Some of my best years were there at MSD. I don’t know if you learned, but I live in Des Moines, Iowa now. My husband, Gus and I are both retired, me from Des Moines Public Schools and him from Iowa...
