Mayville: Theodore “Ted” James Hanson, 84, of Mayville, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Home in Greenhurst, NY.

Born on January 26, 1934, in Buffalo, NY, full of spirit, love and kindness, Ted has moved on to greener pastures, joining his past loved ones, parents-Harold and Babe (Alison) Keiffer Hanson, brothers-Bill Hanson and Fred Hanson, grandson-Brent Smith.

Ted was known for his ability to salvage from the trash most anything and turn it into a motorized running machine! He opened the Mayville NAPA Auto Parts in 1966, in which he owned and operated for many years, also he started the Westfield NAPA. In 1964 he won Cadillac’s Service Manager of the Year for the Northeast sector, winning a trip to the World’s Fair in New York City. Along with earning other awards for his mechanical abilities.

Ted’s genius sense of humor always kept his family, friends and golfing buddies on their toes, for there was always a prank or joke to come, especially if you joined him at his home known as “Camp Booze-n-Snooze”, in which he loved. His greatest desire was watching everyone come there and have fun! Even though it was an endless job for him to fix his mowers, so he could do the endless lawn mowing chore. Other hobbies he enjoyed were golfing, deer hunting, with bow & shotgun, snowmobiling, boating, farming - horses and cows, gardening, feeding humming birds and watching the wildlife from his livingroom window. He never missed an opportunity at having his daughters and others, experience the love of life. We will all miss the laughter he brought us and he will be sincerely MISSED, for he was immensely loved by his family and friends.

Ted also found time to commit to the communities he lived in wanting to make them better and enjoyable places to live. He was a Charter member of the Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club, a member of: Mayville American Legion William L Travis Post 493, Mayville VFW Post 8647, Mayville Conservation Club, American War Vets Recreation Club Fluvanna, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Titusville, FL, and others. He was Maintenance Director and Chairman of Royal Oaks Condo Assoc., and of course a member of the Boozy Tuesday Golf Club group at Royal Oaks in Titusville, instigating the Greedy Pig Award at Royal Oaks.

He is survived by six daughters: Debra (Tom) Przepiora of Mayville, Wendy (Jerry) Rosage of Hartfield, Linda (Brian) Semmel of Clarksville, MD, Kathryn Hanson of Deerfield Bch, FL, Valerie (Len) Hemink of N Chile, NY, and Julie (Mike) Harle of Mayville. He’s blessed with fourteen grandchildren: Gregg, Matthew Przepiora, Gabe, Rachael, Brandy, Bobbie Jo, Mack Rosage, Nick, Catlyn, Semmel, Doug, Jon, Elise, Hemink, Madelyn, and Jenna Harle. Further blessed with nineteen great grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers, Joe Hanson of Montana, and Donny Hanson of South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held at Freay Funeral Home in Mayville, 139 S Erie Street, 14757, Saturday, September 1, 2018. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-3:00 PM, service at 3:00 PM. A gathering after will be held at Camp Booze-n-Snooze, Beaujean Rd, Mayville—bring your best anecdotes, greedy pig and join the 1st meeting of the RORSP Club – Reduction of Road Sign Pollution, in honor of Ted Hanson.
